A view of the earth from our moon
Our City World of Shadow Light
Countless geometric forms make up this symbolic representation of the earth. The shapes are not familiar, but we recognize them as human made. The attraction of this place is one of purpose and control, yet its clear boundaries restrain the spirit and curtail the chance of nature's happy accident.
A central aim of Lunar Mission One is the creation of a comprehensive record of the history of humankind and the biosphere of earth.
Our City World of Shadow Light represents the profound impact humans have on their home planet. The artwork shows areas of water, snow, lush green forest, bright golden city light, and shadowland. A forged fragmented world is revealed where everything is manufactured, assembled, positioned. A synthetic globe of elaborate order where buildings and cities dominate the surface. There is little of nature in the raw or anything of human scale.
From the moon, we look upon our world with different eyes. We see the fragile line of blue that protects life from the threats of the immense darkness of space. We gaze upon our water-world of cloud and vibrant land, our place of crowded constant change, our realm of continuous and accidental collision.
